Coaching and mentoring

“In my experience, it’s in the act of making things and doing our work that we figure out who we are. You’re ready. Start making stuff.” – Austin Kleon

In addition to being a writer and English teacher/tutor/consultant, I have recently become an accredited Relational Dynamic coach. Creativity, productivity and writing are just some of the areas in which coaching can be a valuable tool and I can offer coaching in these or any area(s) of your life. Relational Dynamics 1st specialise in providing coaching and leadership training for individuals and organisations working in the creative, cultural and non-profit sectors, and I am proud to offer coaching as another way of working effectively alongside my fellow writers.

My one-to-one and face-to-face writing services are inclusive of preparation time during which I can read and reflect on some of your work in progress. If a more substantial amount of prior or follow-up reading is required this can also be built into your package of support. My intention is always to offer the kind of support that works for you: it might be one or a sequence of coaching sessions, or it might be more of a mentoring-style approach, or indeed a blend of the two. Please get in touch if you would like to explore how I can work alongside you as you define your goals and your steps towards achieving them.

The support I offer can help with:-

  • approaching a new writing project (including life writing, fiction, poetry, drama, non-fiction)
  • redrafting your work
  • overcoming writer’s block
  • developing confidence with written expression
  • honing professional/academic writing skills
  • reflecting on goals and obstacles
  • building writing into your busy schedule

“I was at a stalemate with my book which I had finished to the best of my ability, it was good but I knew it had the potential to really shine. I just didn’t know how to do this. I asked about for help and someone suggested Emma.  I am truly lucky that she was suggested to me and will definitely work with her on my next book – which I can’t wait to do!”

“Emma’s experience of teaching English and writing poetry mixed with her fierce intellectual capability make her a phenomenal editor and writing coach.”
